Twelve Quilts of Christmas 2017 – #2
DECEMBER 15, 2017
I think it is the quirkiness of this quilt that makes me smile when I look at it. The corner compositions are remarkably similar, while the grapevines in the border exhibit more individualized compositions. This makes sense given all those grapes. It would be hard to get each bunch to be exactly the same. It is trait of individuality in the composition of those bunches that makes this quilt more interesting to look at.
Even worn and loved it is a sweet example of joyous stitching.
Where does your eye go first when you look at this quilt?
My eye immediately is drawn to that jam-packed basket in the center! She couldn’t have added even one more grape! I love that!
My eye dances around and lands on the center basket, studying the grapes and noting that they are different sizes in the basket! How artistic! Shows me a desire for realism.
I love how everyone is enjoying looking at and seeing such different things. Thanks Cheryl for stopping by and commenting.
My eye went to the wreath around the center basket. Wonderful example of “joyous stitching” as you say!
My eye goes there too. I think it has something to do with the lopsidedness of the wreath. Love irregularities! Thanks for commenting Allison.
Amazing work..so much time, a labor of love……Love the medallion style…..different number of grapes in each collection ….thanks !!
You are so welcome Martha!
My eye is first drawn to the snaky vines on top, bottom, left and right and then to the vine around the center basket. I love the curves of the vines!
It really does have such visual movement! Thanks for commenting Dottie.
Quirky is a good word to describe this quilt. I am drawn to the irregular curved vines on all four edges, but my eye cannot stop there, every detail is a delight. Thank you for sharing these treasures.
You are so welcome. It is really fun finding the quilts to highlight.
I love the “wonky” surrounding grapes in the centre…makes me smile!
I know right! Me too.
Hmmm, I think I am related to this quiltmaker, at least in spirit. Love it!
Funny, I think she is my distant, distant cousin too!
