Narrow Single Fold Bindings

I love them.  I love the finish they give to a quilt.  No extra bulk.  Simple.  Elegant.  Their fineness is  what adds to the wonderful drape of a quilt.

I have seen them on the antique quilts I have studied and I think this type of binding finishes off a quilt beautifully.  They are especially stunning on, lets say, a white and blue quilt where blue has been used as the binding … a tiny narrow framing.  Sigh!

  1. Oh my! That star quilt is amazing! I have been quilting since I was 9 and I have always used a single (cut 1 1/4″) binding. I love the way it feels and I have always been too lazy to make a folded binding. And, with the potholder method it is essential to have a thinner less bulky binding. I have enjoyed the Foothills sew-a-long so much. I just may make another one! My friends at our quilt study group yesterday were enthralled and I sent them all over to check out the variations. The amazing thing is that of the hundreds of quilts I have made, this seems to be my husband’s favorite. You just never know!

Smiling so much when I read your comment! Love that your husband loves the quilt. Go figure, right? Thanks for the shout out to your friends about the QAL. And making another one … you are not alone on that front 🙂

Hi Suzanne, if you hover your cursor over the words “Narrow Single Fold Binding” and then click, the pdf page should pop up on your screen. Email me if you can’t get it to work and I will send you a copy that way.

I just tried this on a wallquilt, and really liked it. I had never used either a singlefold, or a binding quite so narrow, but it can be perfect. Thank you for the pdf file to print–it’s going right into my ‘techniques’ notebook!
