Twelve Quilts of Christmas – #3
DECEMBER 16, 2014
If yesterday’s quilts was heart stopping this one is simply described as awe inspiring. Created by Albert Small, he worked on Mosaic for four years, sewing four hours a day, six days a week. The quilt continas a total of 123,300 hexagons. Six of the finished hexagons fit under a dime. Phew!
Enjoy!
Thanks for sharing the 12 quilts of Christmas – they have all been amazing so far but this one is inspiring. I’ve just recently started working on my first “little” hexagon quilt with 1/2 inch hexagons and I won’t complain that they are small ever again. So impressed. Have you found any close up pictures of the quilt? I searched the internet but didn’t run across anything. Thanks again.
I have not seen any close ups. Guess we will all just have to take ourselves to Illinois and see it in person!
And wow! 1/2″ hexagons. Amazing!
I’ve always loved Mr. Small’s 3 quilts….all so unique and graphic in design! And I’ll bet he would have been very interesting to talk with…..handling dynamite by day, and quilting by night! lol
I have always laughed at that last fact too … blowing things up by day and putting things back together by night!
Amazingly beautiful!! I can’t imagine being so disciplined and working with such fine detail!! Definitely inspirational! Thank you again for sharing these quilts!
Hi Colette, That he made three of these quilts boggles my mind. Dedication for sure. Thanks so much for stopping by.
Mr. Small has some color vibration going on here. It’s stimulating.
