Star of Lemoyne Quilt, Rebecca Davis, c. 1846. 80″ x 94″. Metropolitan Museum of Art

Rebecca Davis expertly made wonderful use of stripes and prints to create whirling and twirling stars! The museum is fortunate to have two other wonderful quilts made by her.

Enjoy!

I love how she handled the corners of the borders! Just chop them off! I’d be agonizing how to turn the corner, should I have a corner square? and making the units to fit exactly perfectly without any points missing. I love her method, totally free and easy. And your eyes look at it and think what a great border. My eyes don’t go to the corners. This is great!

I totally agree Michele. A very brilliant way to handle the corners!

This is so great…..the spinners, the dots, and those two mustard colored stars! And a perfect border! Love it!

Regan, I didn’t notice those dots until you pointed them out. They are wonderful!
